The English proficiency test allows students to study in over 140 countries. Around 450,000 students take the exam each year to study abroad.

The IELTS exam is held in India by IDP. It costs 16,250 INR to take the exam. You can book your exam date on the IDP website. After booking, all communication is done by email. You will receive an email telling you when and where to go for the Listening, Reading, and Writing parts of the exam. These parts take 3 hours to complete. The Speaking part is scheduled separately and takes 11-15 minutes. The results will be given to you 13 days after you take the exam.

Listen

The IELTS listening test has four sections of dialogue or monologue. The recordings are of discussions, speeches, chats, and lectures. They can be heard just once, and 40 questions must be answered in 40 minutes. Afterward, students have 10 minutes for transferring answers.

Writing

IELTS writing task consists of two short essays: one is 150 words where candidates have to explain information in their own words, the other is 250 words in response to a given issue. Candidates have 60 minutes to complete both essays.

Reading

The IELTS reading test has three sections with 40 questions in 60 minutes. It assesses reading skills and understanding through long texts from academic sources.

Speaking

The IELTS writing test involves two short essays: a 150-word essay explaining information from a diagram, table, or data, and a 250-word essay in response to a given view, issue, argument, or problem. The test lasts 60 minutes.
